Abstract

This article discusses in detail the relationship between legal awareness and legal mentality. In modern scientific literature, there is a tradition of studying the legal mentality at two levels — broad and narrow. According to the author, the legal mentality is a multi-valued, multi-faceted phenomenon. It is broader and deeper than legal consciousness. It forms the basis of legal consciousness and is its source. The legal mentality influences the content, activity, and orientation of legal consciousness. The legal mentality is considered as an integral concept, and it is proved that it affects the correct understanding and perception of the world of law. The effectiveness, development, direction, and result of legal reform are considered on the basis of the relationship between legal mentality and legal awareness.
